And I see that not many people besides Ava herself have either.

I finished an opinion piece yesterday and I hope that all of you like it. If not, then please, share your criticisms so that I may improve.

This is an interesting feeling, delving like I am. I never thought that I could do things like I’m doing this young, and I can understand why most kids my age feel so detached; by the news, the world, what happens in said world. It's easy to feel disenfranchised, but at the same time we've become very patient- too familiar with the phrases 'when you're older' or 'when I grow up'. As if we have to wait to do anything, but we all age at the same rate, so we will always be younger than the preceding generation... too young to do what needs to be done. Eventually, typically (I would say around the age 22), we realize that we now have to fend for ourselves- paying our own bills, buying our own food. Though this may have been going on for a while now, but with this also with this comes the realization that we could become involved in the process that influences these things. And we become engrossed, even to the point of possibly watching C-SPAN, but most likely not...

Now that I have touched on the situations that may cause us to enact, I would like to touch on something else. And possibly my more conservative readers can help me out with this (if there are any). My question is: What are you afraid of? I stopped by the library this morning and there was a rather odd assortment of political literature. Scattered along the shelf were a few titles I could agree with: One by James Carville and another by Garrison Keillor (which I ended up checking out). A majority of the other titles though, were insistent on how the left, liberals, people like me; were/are/will destroying/destroy this country.

So I ask again: What are you afraid of? As conservatives...

Because you really seem to be afraid of your own shadows. As one part of the country wants and does move forward culturally, fiscally, socially- You seem to be the child who pouts in the corner because 'I don't want to go!' you'd say. So please, let me know, because aside from possible partisan political bias, both of our cultural ends need each other. We [Liberals] will not/can not, change this country alone. And frankly, we don't want to do it alone, but change need to and will be made regardless if we want them to or not. 2009 will be an excellent year for that, the new president (whether Democrat or Republican), will be a nice sort of reboot for us. Perhaps Things will work, perhaps we'll agree on something for once.

Here's to hoping...

i'm afraid i haven't been posting much either

neglecting my own site.. how bad is that? lol. i think the summer is just keeping everyone busy with both the end of the school year rush and the summer break.

I think that most conservatives(at least the ones i personally know) are either afraid of change, or losing power... and let's not forget those who have been brought up with the security of thinking that if they support conservative politicians that they'll go to heaven(fundamentalist voters). Who are we to criticize them though? One of the beautiful things about democracy is that people can be wrong, right, or somewhere in between and not be punished for it.

The best way for us to cause change is by being the change, and the best way to approach those conservative voters who seem to fear change is by reaching out a kind hand and trying to understand exactly what they believe and why. Until we understand each other we can't change each other.

I admire you Ava for your

I admire you Ava for your strong will. I have tried to approach the idea of talking with some conservatives and I have been surprised at the reception. While reserving my own opinions(of which I have many) I decided to ask what they believed in. It turns out the most conservatives just despise politics in general. I can tell you from personal experience that priorities tend to be working and supporting a family. We ask them to come out to the polls to cast there vote, when all they want is the intellectuals or "elitists" to shut up and just give them a job or opportunities.

Work is the magic word for these people and they don't have time to get into all the semantics of this long overdrawn primary season much less the next few months of campaigning. The truth is they'll tune in around October and the Corporate media will have there way with them.

My point is not to put conservatives down, but more to show how they are just non-political people that have more personally important things to do in their immediate circles and families, that makes it hard to keep track of all the lame ducks in Washington. The age old question is: Why do hard working Americans so consistently vote against their own interests?

I think the answer is with you and others Ava. If we can get together with groups of people and make change happen, those hard working people can go back to doing what they love to do instead of being used and bargaining chips by crooked politicians.

That being said, you rock!

Why American's vote against their own best interests.

Indecisive Jake,

You asked, "Why do hard working Americans so consistently vote against their own interests?" Believe it or not, there is an answer. They do so because instead of using their own brains to THINK, they permit the "media" to do their thinking for them. Here's a pair of questions to ask people:

1. Do you consider yourself a liberal or conservative?

2. What is your main source of news?

Your answers, if they are truthful will be, "Conservative - Fox News" or "Liberal - I don't have just one source."

"Conservatives" echo the "unfair/liars" network. You can tell whether or not a liberal has ever watched Fox by the number of dents and chips on their TV sets.
